The Awakening
Here’s a funny little item. According to a CNN poll, 56% of Americans believe that the Government poses a threat to personal liberties. And yes, I said CNN. I know, right? CNN actually got one! Of course, we know that if CNN said 56% then it’s probably more like 60%, but we’ll take what we can get.
Let me stray from what I would like to write for one quick moment, because I enjoyed this little spin from
Paul Steinhauser of CNN:
“The survey indicates a partisan divide on the question: only 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans.”
Now, bless his heart. The fact that Independents are included in this survey should illustrate the fine point that this is NOT strictly partisan…unless, could it be? Is Mr. Steinhauser admitting that most “Independents” are actually Conservative in nature? Why, that would mean that most Americans have more in common with the Republican Party than with the Democratic Party. Wow. Who knew?
Well. I did, but I digress.
Let’s get back to the meat of the matter, which is that most Americans fear that their individual freedoms are in jeopardy. I'll extrapolate, because I assume that this means most people believe the government is working against their best interests. And what’s more, there may even be a universal fear that the government would be willing to put citizens down if they complain about it. We have finally come to that moment in our history from which our forefathers worked so hard to protect us. Human nature being what it is, it was inevitable.
It is now time for a great awakening in this nation, because asleep is what we have been. Comfortable, compliant and non-confrontational. But in waking up, we can now leave behind this quasi dream-state and remember that it is not our Government that makes us unique in a world of nations. It is our Constitution. If we find that our government intimidates us, we must use our Constitution to push it back into the corner where it belongs. And for once, I find myself echoing the Democrats when I say, “It’s for the children.”
